gyakie wins award west african artiste of the year

Gyakie Named Best West African Artiste at Nigeria’s Headies Awards 2022.

Gyakie, a Ghanaian musician, has received the Best West African Artiste title at Nigeria’s Headies Awards.

The “Forever” hitmaker beat her category mates: KiDi (Ghana), Amaarae (Ghana), Angelique Kidjo (Benin), Aya Nakamura (Mali), and Nelson Freitas at the Awards event held last night at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA (Cape Verde).

Gyakie has been on a roll since the publication of her debut effort, SEED EP, and her expanding influence on the African music industry is subtle yet significant. The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) recently honoured the singer with a double Platinum Certification Plaque for her breakout track “Forever,” indicating that over 40 000 units of the single were sold in the South African market.

She’s just recently released another project, My Diary EP which currently has the songs, ‘Something’ and ‘Flames’ featuring Davido making appearances on charts across Africa.

The Headies Awards is Nigeria’s biggest and most anticipated music awards ceremony, and the Best West African Artist category recognises musicians of West African heritage who have made the most impressive achievements and had the most influence across Africa in the previous year.
