Ghana’s Black Galaxies moved one step closer to qualifying for the African Nations Championships, CHAN 2023, with a two-nil victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ B at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
The Ghanaians defended their home grounds by dominating the game, generally forcing their way into the goal area of their Nigerian counterparts but failed initially to capitalise on the numerous chances they had.
However, the team’s performance paid off in the 49th minute when Accra Hearts of Oak’s striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh netted the ball through a spot kick for the first goal, sending the whole stadium into a state of jubilation from the Ghanaian fans.
The second goal came in the closing embers of the game when the Galaxies demonstrated excellent cooperation near the Nigerian goal area for a last touch into the net by Suraj Seidu’s foot.
The victory represents a step forward for Ghana, which has failed to qualify for the CHAN competition in Algeria in the last three seasons.
