TEMA MUSIC AWARDS LAUNCHED

TEMA has over the years contributed significantly to the development of the entertainment industry in Ghana and beyond producing the likes of AB Crentsil, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Jewel Ackah just to mention a few. Recent years have seen a new crop of musical maestros that are breaking boundaries and raising the name and flag of Tema high both at the national and international levels. The likes of Sarkodie, R2Bees, Kwesi Pee, D-cryme, Kwesi Arthur, Kofi Mole, Yeyo, Opanka and Nautycal among others are the new faces of the musical spirit of Tema. The city can also boast of top-notch sound engineers such as Kaywa, Killbeats, Mix-Master Garzy, Seshie and Posigee just to mention a few.

As part of efforts to recognize and award these hardworking talents in the industrial port city, 90 Degrees Tribe, has instituted the Tema Music Awards. The award scheme launched over the weekend at the Royal Nick Hotel recorded participation of key industry players.

The ceremony was chaired by veteran highlife legend, AB Crentsil ably assisted by Gyedu Blay Ambolley who took turns to laud the organizers for their vision and initiative.

The awards committee chaired by Ace-Actor, Businessman and CEO of TV Africa, Mr. Ekow Blankson whom himself grew up in Tema announced the categories for the award. He also touched on some key rules and regulations governing the award scheme.

Categories include Tema Artiste of the Year, Tema Highlife Artiste of the Year, Tema Gospel Artiste of the Year, Best Video of the Year, Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year and the Female Vocalist of the Year among others.

In his speech, Mr. Ekow Blankson assured that the processes leading to the award will be transparent and credible and call on all industry players to have confidence in it. He said the scheme is designed to appreciate and award all forms of Tema-Made music cover Tema and its surrounding communities including Ada, Ashaiman, Klagon, Dawhenya, Prampram, Afienya, Golf City, all the way through to Spintex.

He encouraged musicians, DJs, Music Producers and other creatives to submit their nominations on time and also abide by the governing rules and regulations to avoid being axed from the awards.

Chief Executive officer of Tema Music Awards, Nana Adu expressed gratitude to all present and promised that his team is working hard to ensure that the award scheme stay and grow from strength to strength.

A minute silence was held in the memory of the late Jewel Ackah who was a product of the city and has contributed greatly to the growth of the music industry in Ghana.

The maiden awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday June 6, 2020.
